The Texas Department of Savings and Mortgage Lending is an agency of the State of Texas and is subject to the oversight and under the jurisdiction of the Finance Commission of Texas.
The Department has two key areas of regulatory responsibility: the chartering, regulation and supervision of the state’s thrift industry; and the licensing/registration and regulation of the state’s mortgage industry. These two areas of responsibility cover the vast majority of residential mortgage lending in Texas.
The Texas Department of Savings and Mortgage Lending is fundamentally committed to the comprehensive regulation of the state's savings institutions, residential mortgage loan originators, mortgage companies, and mortgage bankers to protect the financial interests of depositors, creditors and borrowers. The Department will act in accordance with the highest standards of ethics and integrity, and will at all times remain accessible and responsive to the public, the industry, other government agencies, and public officials.
