The Texas Department of Savings and Mortgage Lending (SML) is now accepting applications for the 2027–2028 Mortgage Grant Fund (MGF) grant cycle.

Grants range from $5,000 to $100,000 for a one year or two-year grant term and are open to eligible organizations.

Key Dates

  • Application Period: June 22, 2026, through August 31, 2026
  • Virtual Office Hours (optional): July 7, 14, 21, 28, 2026 – 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. CT
  • Award Notifications: November 2026
  • Grant Cycle:
    • One Year: January through December 2027
    • Two Year: January 2027 through December 2028

Applications must be submitted through the online application form.

After submitting the online form, applicants will receive instructions for submitting required supporting documentation. Applications are not complete until all supporting documentation is received by the Grant Coordinator.

Program Priorities

MGF supports statewide mortgage related financial education and consumer credit building activities that lead to measurable improvements in financial capability and homeownership readiness. Priority is given to programs that deliver:

  • Financial literacy education
  • Counseling that leads to homeownership
  • Train‑the‑trainer programs supporting financial literacy and homeownership education

Key financial literacy areas include budgeting and saving; building and improving credit; investment related to homeownership; and debt management. Programs must serve community members without financial prejudice.

Virtual Office Hours

Optional virtual office hours will be held each Tuesday in July from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. CT. Applicants may join to ask questions about eligibility, completing the application, documentation, and program requirements. No registration is required.

Office hours are intended to provide technical assistance regarding the application process and program requirements. The Grant Coordinator will not provide guidance regarding the competitiveness of a particular application or the likelihood of receiving funding.
